Training
and Research at Sawera Foundation
Since 2001 we have been working with the
problem of drug addiction. This has helped
us accumulate a wealth of experience in
handling drug addicts, dealing with their
problems, helping them get back to living,
and making sure they remain drug-free
even after they cease to be residents
of the center. And we are more than willing
to share this experience of ours with
anybody desiring to gain it.
We have students from other Institutes
of Social Science coming over regularly
to Sawera Foundation for field work and
block placements. We are also willing
to offer short-term in-house workshops
which can provide training to social workers
and others interested in working with
addicts/alcoholics.
Our Research Department analyses data
of records of patients to keep abreast
of our growth and gives feedback. Our
recovery rate has been calculated to be
74.74 %.
2. TREATMENT
RESULTS
The constant dynamic
process of change and changing is known
and accepted as a pro – active
challenge to all community members.
Achieving recovery requires active participation
through all the stages of the recovery
process. During August, 2005 an “informal”
evaluation was completed by the Sawera
Foundation staff, the focus of assessment
was each individual’s “here
and now” situation.
The follow–up involved all persons
admitted for treatment during September
22, 2000 – August 30, 2005, of
a total number of 355 admissions this
evaluation was able to ascertain information
regarding 224 individuals.
In 2001 and 2005 we can see a marked
improvement in the results, with 62%
and 71% positive treatment outcomes
respectively. According to a recent
survey the recovery rate for the period
September 2006 – August 2007 was
found to be 71.88%. The cumulative recovery
rate since the foundation of the organisation
till August 2007 is 74.74%.
3. CONCLUSION
The results from year 2005 show increase
of 1.39 % positive treatment outcomes
over the duration of 1.5 year period
from February 2006 to August 2007.
